The Centre Hospitalier de Jury (Jury Hospital) chose Altaïr from DSDSYSTEM to optimize the organization and management of the maintenance of its 21 in-patient units, located in the Lorraine region. The new solution also allows the hospital to prepare effectively for a future project to consolidate the twenty or so existing units into four sites.

The hospital of Jury in the Moselle region is a public institution specializing in adult psychiatric treatment, short-term hospitalization, treatment for drug addicts, and in-patient care for adolescents. Its hospital units – which offer a total of almost 400 beds – include three out-patient clinics for psychiatry, a building for overnight care and 17 further units. The organization depends on around 50 medical and in-house personnel and more than 750 non medical staff. It manages an annual budget of 52 million Euros (2011 figures).

This type of structure generates a great deal of work. With more than 11,000 adult and adolescent patients admitted to care every year, the Jury Hospital has to manage, for example, the preparation of some 320,000 meals per year, as well as the processing of more than a ton and a half of laundry every day. Building maintenance, routine repairs, upkeep of equipment (toilets, furniture, cookers, washing machines, vehicle fleet, etc.) and inventory management are all daily operations requiring streamlined and efficient orchestration and which take place across the numerous sites of the Jury Hospital.

Modernization and harmonization of multi-site maintenance.

“We wanted to set up a complete asset management system for equipment and inventory in order to meet several strategic objectives,” comments Daniel Ludwig, the engineer responsible for technical services at the Jury Hospital. “Firstly, we wanted to harmonize maintenance operations across both services and sites. Previously, we used a system of paper-based work orders, which did not allow for consistent and streamlined management and also prevented the effective monitoring of individual repairs and stock maintenance records. We therefore needed to co-ordinate the management of our maintenance operations and inventory, for the sake of efficiency as well as to control expenditure. For our second main objective, we wanted to use our new CMMS system to demonstrate our commitment to the ongoing programs of quality improvement and sustainable development that have been a crucial part of the Jury Hospital for several years. For example, to plan and put into action the gradual replacement of various pieces of equipment with more energy-efficient models, the improved sorting of different types of waste, and the optimization of travel planning. Finally, the adoption of a new CMMS solution met our third objective, which relates to the future consolidation of our multiple sites into four main locations. The scope of this project will require a very precise understanding of the location and details of all of our equipment.”

Daniel Ludwig adds, “Along with its functional capabilities, the new solution also had to meet several technical criteria in order to fulfill two central requirements: the solution had to be easy to access and use from any of our sites, and the software had to be compatible with our IT infrastructure, based entirely on Apple products.”

As a public institution, the Jury hospital drew up a definition of its requirements and called for tenders from selected suppliers. Following the evaluation process, the Altaïr solution from DSDSYSTEM was selected as the new CMMS.

The registration of the main data categories – descriptions of buildings, premises and fittings, lists of allocated equipment, etc – was completed during the last quarter of 2011, and will go on to include, in particular, the Jury Hospital fleet of over 90 vehicles.
